Roadkill - Not just for hunters, another form of Gathering

Roadkill - Not just for hunters, another form of Gathering

We have all seen that carcass on the side of the road. How many times did you drive sad about the life that was lost and wasted, feeling helpless about not doing more? How many times have you marveled at the meats others talk about and the hides they bring to gatherings?

Personally I stopped being a vegetarian when I realized it was not just animal cruelty in factory farms that I was against; it was the practices of waste and detriment to our entire planet in the current social normalized ways of life. So in response we have started growing and producing as much as we can right on our property. Out of this came the awareness of all that is needlessly wasted. The waste from grocery stores, peoples homes and restaurants. But dumpster diving is a whole other class.. Wasting a life is the worst sin we can ever do in our mind. So finding an animal that otherwise will be picked up by the road crews and tossed to the dump? It seemed to just make sense that we should also utilize that resource.

In this class we are going to talk about and experience how to use our senses in telling if an animal is good for meat, hides, tools or to just run away from. Yes, there will be discussion of the zombi deer we found! Resources to look up different current diseases by region to make yourself knowledgeable and our responsibility to report to authorities when we see them. Basic skinning techniques and how it may be different than if we had hunted and killed the animal ourselves. Introduction to charcutery ideas and techniques. Other fun things you can make with animal parts. Best places to scavenge. And perhaps other tangents as they come up in discussion. Like did you know possums have blue balls?

Please be aware that there will be a dead creature in this class. We will have our knives out and there will be blood and poop and all sorts of things that come with all creatures and using tools. The teacher and the gathering expect you will use common sense and awareness of safety and do not hold either liable if something happens. Also since we are talking about found meat you will be choosing your own level of participating and risks involved with no judgment about it especially if you just came to marvel and observe. The perspective of the mind being opened is also a risk you take in attending....

Please bring a knife and water bottle. We will provide soap and hand washing station for any participation that includes touching the animal in any form. Health and safety are so important! Also bring a strong stomach there is always a chance we will have a carcass to be an example of what not to eat... insert smirking face here.

Rockin n Rollin Massage

This class will focus on teaching two basic tui na (Chinese Medical Massage) techniques and how to apply them for an excellent whole body massage. The two techniques are the Rocking and the Rolling technique. The techniques are simple to learn and apply, and are the ones I use the most clinically as an acupuncture physician.

The course will begin with the basics of touch and paying attention to what's going on beneath and in your hands and progress from specific techniques to creating waves through the whole body. In addition, we will address applying this type of massage to specific regions. These techniques are generally very relaxing and nourishing to receive, and it's a great way to kick off the gathering after either a long drive or long week of setup!

Some details:
- This style of massage is done fully clothed
- It's done on the ground, so bring a blanket or yoga mat - Florida dirt is sandy and generally not fun to lay on
- Please be comfortable with touching and being touched by other humans...
- ...or bring a specific human with you who that applies to (and vice versa)
- Teenagers are welcome provided they maintain the level of maturity appropriate to learning a touch based healing art

Truth be Told

This is a powerful eye opening exploration into the Nature and Fullness of our candor...moving forward. Each participant is asked to bring 3 Truths that are critical to the Sacred navigation of your public and private lives in 2022. For some, this is a reality check to how dim or bright the Light is in their personal Lighthouse? Still others, find themselves as stuck as they were last year in the stagnation of mind and emotions? Finding ways to articulate, acknowledge and Embrace our Personal Truths is Healing medicine. As wayshowers, we are unable to give to others that which we, ourselves are not in possession of.

Beginners Poi, Flow Arts, and Safety First Fire Dancing

Have you ever achieved that thoughtless bliss while dancing or drumming?
There is a state of mind called Flow. Achieving Flow State is one of the reasons we recreate, and it is shown to be medicine for our brains.
I found my moving meditation with poi, which is a native Maori dance of twirling pendulums. In the modern flow art, this is usually done with nice soft sock poi, or... We make them out of chain and Kevlar, soak them in fuel, and BURN THEMMM!
(Safely and while hopefully not igniting ourselves! Fear not, I also teach the burn salve making class...)
You’ll be actively moving and learning beginners poi techniques.

We'll also discuss such things as:
-How to be a good Safety, in detail.
-What to wear (hint: natural fibers or nothing) and Not to Wear (synthetics)
-We will practice extinguishing a lit prop.
-If you/we achieve certain things you may spin fire in class!

Youth over 7 are welcome.
Parental consent required to dance with fire.

Class Fee: $2 Fee is only for those using fuel.

This is a 3 day ALL day class! You must sign up IN PERSON on Wednesday! Please bring a mask for times when we will need to work closely on our hides!

Day 3 is our smoking day where students will pair up to smoke their hides. This class is an intensive! It is 3 full days with lots of work and physical labor. Be prepared to spend most of your gathering time in this class. WE is the new pronoun!

From our indigenous culture and upbringing, we are soothed in speaking and writing from the place of WE! Having shared the joys and pains of more than 300 of my personal relatives whose energy continues to move with and support us in each and every moment in Earthschool...WE, my ancestors, angels, starbeings and I, have much more fluidity than those limited to the personal ego of "I". As we embark on the adventure of "group" thought the way ahead seems less isolated, less prone to failure or inadequacy. Peacemakers, Bridgebuilders and community activists master the necessary tools of conflict resolution in the Passage from I to WE.

A rare white root that gives you dreams and regenerates nerve/brain tissue.

New Moon Songwriting Workshop: Creating your own Intention Mantra

On or soon after the New Moon is considered a potent time for making intentions/invitations, and what better way to anchor those intentions into our body than to sing them with your own song? In the first part of this workshop, participants will learn songwriting techniques to put melody and music to words. Then through some self-reflection writing prompts, everyone will create their own affirmation statements. Then, using the melodic tools and techniques, will put a melody to their affirmation, making a pocketable song that can be sung throughout the moon cycle to anchor those intentions. Participants will have the opportunity to share their mantra songs at the end.

This process helps me to distill and organize my often scattered intentions into a more memorable “bite-sized” wisdom nugget, that I can keep returning to as a mantra to remind me of what I’ve deemed the most important thing for me to remember. I’ve done this practice for many years, and am excited to share it with you!

Beyond Functional Medicine: Peptides and DIY Health

Staying healthy is challenging and complex nowadays, and we all are dealing with some sort of chronic ailment. It's my passion to enable people to understand and take better control of their health, with simple, scientific, and accessible tools. Whether you are a clinician, a biohacker, or just someone wanting better health, you'll get much practical knowledge and tools out of this workshop:

1. Order your own lab tests, including When to do genetic testing and simplify "the MTHFR"!
2. Become aware of many silent epidemics and their shared root causes. Demystify inflammation, gut dysbiosis/Leaky gut leaky brain, Lyme and Chronic Fatigue, hormonal dysregulation, etc., and their overlapping fixes. "Remove the root assault, otherwise No amount of herb or acupuncture will work".
3. Support health at mitochondria and cellular level - this makes more sense and is more efficacious than the Functional Medicine approach. A lot of longevity research and Biohacking movement are really about cell life cycles and mitochondria energy production. Among the modern DIY tools coming out of those, I'll introduce you to Peptides, the body's natural signaling molecules. It repairs multiple body system at cellular level, and so safe, natural, and accessible that I call it "poor man's stem cell therapy".

The body is a miraculous machine that's designed to handle healthy amount of stress, to age gracefully, and to bounce back once you figure out what's really going on. I hope you apply the practical knowledge from this workshop, to improve health and fitness. Only with physical vibrancy, can we have the drive, the emotional resilience, and apocaloptimism, to do work for Earth, to help one another, and create new reality.

Taking the Pulse of Trees, night hike

This unique class will be a night hike without any flashlights or other light beyond what nature provides. We will explore the other senses besides site. The goal of this class is to connect better with the energy/spirit of the living trees. We will walk in silence slowly to find trees that choose to share with us as a group and lay on hands until we can experience the pulse/energy of each unique tree. Afterwards we will take time to debrief what they may have felt or not felt during the experience. Sorry but this is an adults only event (you can do this on your own with kids later).

Facing Activist Burnout for the Perpetually Feral Being

This workshop gives attendees the option to consent to an exploration of the burnout that has debilitated activists as individuals, thus weakening radical movements throughout history. It is so easy to lose hope as an environmental or social justice activist, especially when we have faced trauma - whether it be physical violence, such as police brutality, or emotional trauma, such as seeing our families and loved ones not care about liberations that our hearts pound for. This workshop is for all beings who care - whether you have been on the front lines or tend a garden in resistance, whether you write radical literature or occasionally make a post on social media - there is not shame or hierarchy in what it means to be an activist and no limits to the sorrow and grief we may carry.

Meditation Discussion & Sound Bath

We’ll discuss the practice of becoming more conscious in the present moment, which ultimately brings us to the gentle serenity of the quiet mind.

We'll learn about the different musical instruments used, such as hulusi, guzheng, n’goni, didgeridoo, gongs, crystal bowls, shruti box and handpan, learning their histories, and then hearing their sounds as we’re invited to be in a meditative space.

Then participants can lay back, close their eyes and listen to the peaceful sounds of a profoundly potent symphonic orchestration of acoustic vibration that guides us to the stillness that exists beyond all thoughts.

Ancestral Trauma and Gifts

Everyone has loving and luminous ancestors who are eager to help. Everyone also has troubled ancestors whose pain may still being lived in our own lives - Childhood and societal trauma usually started way before us, or our parents (think of the human history in the last 500 years) . This workshop teaches many practical tools, for you to:

1) Access ancient, healed ancestors. You don't directly heal your family line, rather, ask the Ancient ones to work on those who are not at peace. Cultivate a conscious relation with the many ancestors who are eager to help, and who have vested interests in you being well and vibrant.
2) Understand our own pain, our coping styles when our needs aren't met (security, love and purpose), and how ancestral connection will heal the inner child, and empower the authentic adult that you are becoming. There will be fun exercises to cultivate intimate self knowledge and acceptance, drawn from modern teachings on complex PTSD and ACA/GCA (Adult Child of Alcoholics / Grandchild of Alcoholics).

Ancestral healing is a potent medicine for yourself, your living family, and our dystopia time. You are very loved and guided by your "people". You are never alone, and you have a purpose in the world. Come to this class to start the discovery - and the reunion.

Dirtbagging for women: how to live out of the vehicle you got

Van lifers are great! We love them. But not everyone has a van. Come discuss how each of us as women have traveled and lived out of the vehicles we already have. How do you adapt to what your needs are, learn to minimalize, stay organized and use your skills to thrive where ever you are. And sad truth is that as women, or woman identifying, we have to think about safety things that those of the male gender do not… let’s talk about it. Nomadic life is one that is in all of our primitive roots. Come celebrate and learn how to be part of this traditional way of living in a more modern way.
Class focusing on needs of female travelers but all welcome. Co teaching with JT Stokes.

Finding Joy in the Journey While Navigating Lifes Hardships

Although loss, disappointment, and emotional pain are inevitable in life, endless suffering does not have to be.

This class is for those who desire to learn effective coping skills to deal with life's hardships. We will discuss practical skills that can be used to address our pain and gain new perspectives so we may find joy along our healing journey.

Personal hardships may come up during our discussion, however, this class is NOT a grief processing workshop. This class IS a place to gain new skills and perspectives to help you process emotional pain.

Due to the personal nature of what may be discussed in this class, it will be a Closed Container; once the class begins, no one will be allowed to enter the circle late. You can bring something to sit on such as a blanket or cushion and something to take notes with if you want to. If you bring a cell phone, I will ask that you turn it off during this class. I look forward to being in sacred community with you.

This healing art involves a lot of assisted stretching and is beneficial to both the giver and receiver. We will work on the feet, legs, hips, back, shoulders, neck and head. Please bring a yoga mat or blanket.
